01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Located on Jalan Serdang in the vibrant neighborhood of Kampung Tunku Putra, Kulim, Jamal Roti Canai Dudok is a beloved local gem specializing in traditional Malaysian roti canai. This casual eatery is best known for its signature roti canai banjir, served generously flooded with rich, aromatic chicken curry and dhal. The interplay of crispy, flaky layers of the roti with the creamy, flavorful gravy creates a comforting symphony of textures and tastes that will awaken your senses with each bite.

While longtime fans reminisce about the once-extraordinary curry gravy that elevated the dish, recent patrons still praise the overall authentic roti canai experience here. The open-air setting and informal vibe add a warm, communal feeling to every meal, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed breakfast or late-night snack. The unique ordering system, where diners use pencil and paper to jot down their choices from a compact yet satisfying menu, adds a charming and interactive element to the dining experience.

Aside from the roti canai, the menu offers an enticing range of traditional Malaysian favorites like roti jala, mi goreng, and nasi lemak available from neighboring stalls, giving you a delightful variety to explore. Don’t miss their Malay-style take on French toast, a sweet and savory treat that reflects their creative yet heartfelt approach to local cuisine.

Patrons recommend arriving early to secure parking and a table, especially during peak hours, as the place can get quite busy — a testament to its enduring popularity. Although the setting may appear a bit rundown, the genuine flavors, speedy service, and friendly atmosphere make Jamal Roti Canai Dudok a destination that feels like a true Kulim local secret worth discovering.

For anyone craving a genuine taste of Kedah’s roti canai culture with a side of nostalgic comfort food, Jamal Roti Canai Dudok promises an experience that’s deeply satisfying, both to the palate and the soul.

Get your table before ordering. They provide pencil/pen and paper, and of course with menu for us to place our order. Waiting time depend on crowd. Normally not so long to wait. Usually I ordered 'roti canai banjir' with chicken curry + dhal. Customers can also order roti jala or mi goreng or nasi lemak from neighbouring stalls.
